Art Craft, 1-30 June,
The next exhibition that I'll be featuring in, has a fantastic line-up of artists based in or near Cardiff. Organised by the Cardiff Arts Collective, they have once again secured a vacant shop in the city centre.
Details are as follows:
Art Craft
1-30 June 2013 | 10-5.30 daily
11 High Street, Castle Quarter, Cardiff CF10 1AW
Private View: Saturday 1 June 2-4pm
Artist Talk: Alun Hemming: ‘Scale’ Saturday 8 June 2-3pm
Artist in Residence 1: Michelle Griffiths 10-14 June
Artist Talk: Ingrid Murphy: ‘New Technologies within Ceramic
Practice’ Saturday 15 June 2-3pm
Artist in Residence 2: Natalia Dias 24-28 June
'The exhibition focuses on artists whose work either transcends the boundary between what is traditionally classified as art and craft, falls between the two areas or highlights the theme of what is art and what is craft.
We think it is as current an issue as ever, with the development of new technologies used with more traditional materials and techniques, with many local artists producing technically innovative and thought provoking artwork. Organised by the Cardiff Arts Collective.'

Sophie Buckingham
Claire Cawte
Natalia Dias

Am delighted to share some images of four new Resonate sculptures made especially for 'Traditional Twisted' at Unit 12, a brilliant applied art gallery in Staffordshire. This exhibition celebrates designer-makers who work in traditional techniques and processes but with a contemporary twist taking the crafts into new territory.
The exhibition opens tomorrow, 2nd March 2013 and continues until the 25th May. I thoroughly recommend a visit (I can't wait to go see my work in situ!). As well as the exhibition, you can see studio makers at work, and there is also a very inspiring programme of workshops.
Each sculpture is made using my trademark techniques of cotton and silk threads in gradating hues cast in high quality acrylic resin. The sculptures each measure 20x20x6cm.

Resonant Colour, Llantarnam Grange, Cwmbran 19th March - 7th May 2011
Some images from my latest curation project......
This exhibition entitled 'Resonant Colour' is the first of a series of 'Makers to Curators' exhibitions instigated by Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre in Cwmbran, generously supported by the Arts Council of Wales.
Alongside my work, I have had the great pleasure of selecting work from five makers whom I admire greatly. It goes without saying that this was another dream project to select work that I find hypnotically beautiful and intellectually stimulating..... many thanks to Nicholas Rena, Heike Brachlow, Sara Moorhouse, Ann Sutton and Kate Blee for kindly agreeing to be part of this exhibition.
The connecting thread is the use of colour. It is often assumed that applied artists are primarily concerned with the making process and practical function of their work, over and above conceptual and intellectual endeavours. However, here all the exhibited work sees these factors on equal footing. Colour is not a mere decorative afterthought, but is fundamental: it is at the core.
There is an accompanying publication with wonderful essays by Royden Hunt and Sara Moorhouse. Photographs are by Toril Brancher and design by Icon Creative Design. Thank you too to the wonderful team at Llantarnam Grange for this opportunity and their support.
The exhibition opening is on the 18th March, 5 - 8.30pm - please do come along if you're in the area. Hope to see you there!
